The 90’s Grunge band Nirvana files a lawsuit against Marc Jacobs for ripping off their smiley face design. In Marc Jacobs collection “Bootleg Redux Grunge”, it is blatantly obvious that the idea of the design has no originality at all. The band had owned this trademark since 1992. The yellow squiggly smiley face has became a badge of cool in its era to proudly wear with the bands own clothing line from socks to t-shirts to sweaters. The origin of the “smiley face” is unclear, but most fans believed it was drawn by Cobain that made its first appearance on a flyer for an album release party of “Nevermind” in September 1991.
